Introduction: Seachem PhosGuard is a powerful chemical filtration media designed to remove phosphate (PO₄) and silicate (SiO₂) from both freshwater and saltwater aquariums. Excess phosphate and silicate can lead to problematic algae growth, clouding the water and negatively impacting the health of your aquatic environment. PhosGuard’s unique bead-shaped structure ensures high efficiency and fast action, helping to maintain crystal-clear water and prevent unsightly algae blooms.

Usage:

• Dosage:
  • For saltwater tanks, use 85 mL (approximately 1/3 cup) of PhosGuard per 200 liters (50 gallons) of water.
  • For freshwater tanks, use 85 mL per 400 liters (100 gallons) of water.
• Duration: PhosGuard works quickly and may start reducing phosphates within hours of use. It can be left in the filter for up to 4 days or until phosphate levels reach the desired level.
• Replacement: Once the media is exhausted (indicated by phosphate or silicate levels no longer decreasing), it should be replaced. The typical lifespan varies depending on the tank’s phosphate load but can last from a few days to several weeks.
• Rinse Before Use: Rinse PhosGuard in freshwater before placing it in the aquarium to remove dust and improve water flow through the media.

Available Sizes: Seachem PhosGuard is available in various sizes to meet different aquarium needs:

• 250 mL: Ideal for smaller tanks or short-term use in mid-sized aquariums.
• 500 mL: A standard size suitable for most aquariums and moderate phosphate levels.
• 1 Liter: A larger size for continuous use in larger aquariums or tanks with heavy phosphate loads.
• 2 Liters, 4 Liters: Bulk options for very large aquariums, reef tanks, or regular use in multiple setups.

Recommendations:

• Monitoring Phosphate Levels: Use a phosphate test kit to regularly monitor your tank’s phosphate levels. This will help determine the best time to add or replace PhosGuard for effective algae control.
